NEWPORT — Indiana State Police are investigating the weekend death of an inmate at the Vermillion County Jail.
Correctional staff found 20-year-old Charles David Jackson of Cayuga dead in his cell early Saturday while conducting cell checks at the western Indiana jail. A state police news release says Jackson apparently hanged himself and that foul play isn’t suspected.
Jackson had been incarcerated on theft charges since Dec. 1.
After state police finish their investigation, their report will be forwarded to the Vermillion County Prosecutor’s office for review.
