Crash victims' relatives mark 15th anniversary

ROSELAWN, Ind. (AP) — Relatives of 68 people who were killed in a commuter plane crash in northwest Indiana 15 years ago gathered for a memorial service for the victims.

Anderson resident Brad Stansberry was among the 68 victims of that crash.

Three small children handed out red paper hearts, autumn leaves, and paper clips to about 60 people at the edge of a cornfield Saturday.

Nine-year-old Jackie Calderon says she wishes her grandfather and uncle and other victims were still on Earth and not in heaven.

Each year since the Oct. 31, 1994, crash there has been a service and candlelight vigil at the memorial for American Eagle flight 4184's victims.

The National Transportation Safety Board determined in 1996 that the turboprop commuter flight from Indianapolis to Chicago developed ice on its wings and dropped swiftly from the sky, plunging into a field about 30 miles south of Gary.
