Body of Elkhart soldier headed back to No. Ind.

ELKHART — The body of an Army soldier from Elkhart who was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan is headed back to northern Indiana.

The Elkhart Truth reports the body of Staff Sgt. Jesse Williams is scheduled to arrive at South Bend Regional Airport at 9 a.m. Friday. Williams and five other soldiers died when a Black Hawk UH-60 helicopter went down Dec. 17 during a mission in Zabul province.

After arriving in South Bend, the body will be taken to Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart.

The visitation for Williams is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 2 at Granger Community Church in Mishawaka. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at Granger Community Church. His body will be buried at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
