Sunday storms hit Indy area

The Herald Bulletin

---- — INDIANAPOLIS — A line of severe thunderstorms left behind flooded streets and power outages in central Indiana Sunday.

Lightning struck a house on Indianapolis’ northeast side and caused a fire that destroyed much of the home. No one was home at the time.

An Indianapolis Zoo spokesman said a security guard was indirectly struck by lightning but was conscious with no visible burns at a hospital.

The storm packing winds as high as 55 mph also downed power lines in the city’s northwest side, blocking several lanes of Interstate 465.

No storm damage was reported in Madison County.
