I-69 closed due to suspicious package on bridge

FISHERS, Ind. — Officials say I-69 was closed in both directions for awhile Monday afternoon due to a suspicious package on a bridge above the interstate.

Officials told The Herald Bulletin's news gathering partner WISH-TV that I-69 was closed northbound at the 5-mile marker near Fishers and southbound at the 10-mile marker.

Police were investigating a suspicious package on the Campus Parkway bridge which turned out to be a backpack. The lanes on the bridge were also closed.

Both north and southbound lanes reopened just before 6 p.m.

The owners of the backpack returned to pick it up. Officials say there was no criminal intent.
