A South Bend teenager is using winnings from BMX bike contests to finance a $100,000 BMX and skate park.

Washington High School sophomore Brett Banasiewicz is a rising star in the BMX world who said he often has to travel to Muncie to practice at a skate park there since options in South Bend were limited. He decided to use money he earned being a BMX rider to finance The Kitchen BMX and Skate Park.

The South Bend Tribune says the park will be the largest of its kind in the Midwest when it opens later this month. The park is in a 30,000-square-foot warehouse with 28-foot ceilings.
