Sept. 27, 1918 - March 22, 2008

PENDLETON — Thomas Arthur Barney, 89, died March 22, 2008, at Community Hospital, Anderson, after an extended illness.

He was a farmer, truck driver, mechanic and former town marshal of Markleville, before retiring from Saint John’s Medical Center as a security officer. He served in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II as a parachute packer.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen Barney of Pendleton; three daughters, Edie Dalton, Marsha (husband, Steve) Goodrick of Pendleton and Elaine (husband, Steve) Schulmeyer; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Ida (husband, William) Shuck; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted March 26 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard True officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Columbus, where military graveside rites were conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266 Honor Guard.
