Police are searching for clues today related to the theft Thursday afternoon of a semi-tractor trailer carrying $1.7 million worth of Black Berry Play Books was stolen Thursday afternoon.
According to Officer Mike Milbourn, the theft happened while the driver of the semi had stopped at the Pilot Travel Center off State Road 67, west of Interstate 69.
Milbourn said the driver left the vehicle to get something to eat and take a shower. When he came back to where he had parked, an hour later, he found his truck was missing.
The driver was transporting 22 pallets of the tablet computers from the Bright Point Distribution center in Plainfield to Ontario, Canada. In addition, the driver said he had a computer, credit cards and clothing in the semi.
Police were advised by Bright Point that the shipment did not have any tracking devices.
In the police report, Milbourn wrote that he had contacted Neal Freeman, an agent with the FBI, for assistance. Freeman advised Milbourn he would contact the Interstate Theft Task Force this morning. He also stated that, in his experience, such stolen goods are often taken to the Miami area.
Police said they have no suspects.
