An exchange of gunfire in Streaty Park on Wednesday caused no injuries, but left police with little evidence.

Officer Fred Tevis of the Anderson Police Department said witnesses heard shots fired along 19th Street near the parking lot of Streaty Park, and confirmed that an exchange of gunfire had occurred just before 6 p.m.

A female witness claimed to have been shot, but the report turned out to be false.

At the scene, officers searched for shell casings but found none in the area where the shooting allegedly took place.

Sgt. Shawn Richwine said some weapons do not leave shell casings behind.

Witness Kevin Johnson, 18, said children were in the park at the time of the shooting.

“I just heard gunshots,” Johnson said.

Several other witnesses at the scene said they saw nothing.
