The Paramount Theatre will be singing the blues on April 16 with a concert headlined by The Gene Deer Band.

The band out of Indianapolis plays American blues, rock and country. The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Paramount, 1124 Meridian Plaza.

Presented by Daddy Real Entertainment, this First Annual Blues features The Gene Deer Band concert with special guests The Elect and Mike Milligan and Steam Shovel.

Gene Deer was voted the “Best Local Blues Band” for nine consecutive years (1995-2003) by the readers of Nuvo Newsweekly.

In 2002, Deer was hired by Indy car driver Kenny Brack as band leader and musical director for Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers, which toured with the Indy Racing League in 2003.

Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers released a CD, “Live in Nashville,” featuring former Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King.
