George L. Hobbs

LOGANSPORT — George L. Hobbs, 85, Logansport, died Dec. 27, 2005, at Miller's Merry Manor, Logansport, after an extended illness.
Born June 30, 1920, in Elwood, he was one of 11 children born to John and Nola (Mock) Hobbs. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
George married Ruth Virginia (Baker) on Nov. 10, 1939, and then to Noma Jean Hobbs, who preceded him in death.
He retired from Delco Remy after 33 years, moving to Arizona for 25 years, returning to Indiana in 1999 due to failing health.
He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 662, Masonic Lodge of Anderson and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He attended church while in Arizona and attended Miami Baptist Church in Logansport. George always had an engaging smile and a firm handshake that always made you feel welcome. He enjoyed farming, fishing and golfing.
He will be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Fairy (husband, Jim) Anderson of Pendleton; three sons, Jan (wife, Roxie) Hobbs of Logansport, Jeff (wife, Jo) Hobbs of Muncie, and Jon Berry of Iowa; two sisters, Reta Beeman of Elwood, and Bertha Hall of Anderson; two brothers, Dick Hobbs of Elwood, and Dallas Hobbs of Elwood; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Noma Jean; three brothers, Tom, Jim and John Hobbs; three sisters, Dolores Tubbs, Olive Hobbs and Donna Mascali. .
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with the Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Cremation will follow with burial at later date.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of the donor’s choice.
