GARY, Ind. — A semitrailer jackknifed and caught fire on the Indiana Toll Road in Gary, closing westbound lanes.

The accident occurred about 7:30 a.m. Eastern time Monday near Interstate 65 and the westbound lanes remained closed two hours later. Indiana State Police say the driver of the truck refused treatment.

State police are advising westbound vehicles to detour at the Gary East exit at mile marker 17, which will direct them off the toll road onto U.S. 20.

State police said it was unclear when the westbound lanes would reopen.
