Dr. Suellen Reed, Indiana’s longest-serving and first woman superintendent of public instruction, officially announced today that she will not seek a fifth consecutive term as chief state school officer, according to a press release from the Department of Education.

“Working over the past 16 years to advance the aspirations and achievements of our students has been among the most rewarding experiences of my life. However, I am ready to embrace new challenges and explore new opportunities,” said Reed. “Ensuring success for our students is an ongoing effort, and my passion and support for public education will continue no matter what position I hold.”
