City announces road closure

ANDERSON — According to the City Engineering Department, 53rd Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and 53rd Street Parkway will be closed until Friday at 5 p.m. as Culy will be pipe lining, according to a press release.

Estate of man who allegedly killed 2 sued

MUNCIE — A woman whose mother and sister were allegedly slain by her father is seeking damages from the late central Indiana man's estate.

Two wrongful death lawsuits were filed last week against Casey L. Ritchie's estate by his daughter, Brandi Ritchie, who's the personal representative of the estates of her mother and younger sister.

Delaware County Sheriff Tony Skinner says the killings remain under investigation, but evidence "conclusively" shows Casey Ritchie of Muncie fatally shot 45-year-old Denise Miles and 14-year-old Rylee Ritchie in April before killing himself.

Three charged with animal cruelty

FAIR OAKS — Three people have been charged with animal cruelty following the release of video showing workers kicking and throwing young calves at a northwestern Indiana dairy farm that's an agritourism destination.

The Newton County Sheriff's Department said Monday that misdemeanor charges for the beating of a vertebrate animal have been filed against three people related to the Fair Oaks Farms case.

Police say fleeing driver killed in crash

ELKHART — Police say a driver fleeing from officers was killed when the vehicle crashed in a northern Indiana city.

The Elkhart Police Department says officers responding about 5 a.m. Sunday to a call of a screaming woman saw an SUV leaving the area. Officers chasing the SUV say the driver disregarded railroad crossing arms, then hit a parked car and struck a downtown post office building.

City advancing baseball stadium despite higher cost

LAFAYETTE — Lafayette's mayor doesn't plan major changes to plans for a new city baseball stadium even though construction bids totaled nearly $4 million more than expected.

The new 2,500-seat stadium would be built at the same site as the current Loeb Stadium in Columbian Park southeast of downtown Lafayette.
