Former Elwood resident charged with attempted child exploitation

Michael S. Beeman

ANDERSON – A former Elwood resident was arrested by Elwood police on felony charges including attempted child exploitation.

Michael S. Beeman, 20, Fort Wayne, was arrested Friday on allegations that he pressured two girls under the age of 15 to send him nude photographs.

Beeman is charged with attempted child exploitation, a Level 4 felony; child solicitation, a Level 5 felony; and disseminating matter harmful to a minor, a Level 6 felony.

If convicted, he could face a possible prison sentence of 3 ½ to 20 ½ years.

Beeman’s bond was set at $40,000 during his initial hearing on Monday.

The court documents indicate the alleged incidents took place in 2018 in which one of the juvenile girls attempted to remove the younger girl’s pants and send a picture via cellphone to an unknown male.

The older girl also showed a picture of a male sexual organ to the younger girl.

The older girl told a case manager with the Indiana Department of Child Services that she was communicating with Beeman.

According to court records, the older girl met Beeman through her older brother in 2017 or 2018 and Beeman started sending her message on Snapchat and Facebook asking for nude photographs of herself.

The girl said she was afraid if she said “no” Beeman might get mad at her and feared him because of his social media posts with guns.

Beeman also allegedly sent messages to the girl stating he wanted to have sex with her when he returned to Elwood.

Investigators found nude photographs of the two girls on the older girl’s cellphone that had been sent to Beeman, according to court records.

Elwood investigators, through Fort Wayne police, attempted to make contact with Beeman, but were unable to reach him.
