Memorial Day service Monday

Anderson’s annual Memorial Day service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the veterans monuments at Eighth and Main streets. Emcee will be Jack Moore and the invocation will be presented by Mark Ake. The speaker will be Anderson Police Chief Darron Sparks followed by laying of wreaths. The benediction will be given by Mark Ake followed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266 rifle squad and bugler. The service will then move to Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery where the invocation will be given by Frank Cramer; Art Leak will be the speaker.

Summer food service program begins in June

Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana is participating in Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge. Meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows:

• Alexandria Community Center, 315 S. Harrison St., Alexandria, June 10-Aug. 7, Tuesday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• Chesterfield Christian Church, 207 E. Plum St., Chesterfield, June 2-Aug. 15, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Geater Community Center, 1611 Chase St., Anderson, June 9-Aug. 15, Monday-Friday, 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.

• North Anderson Community Center, 101 E. Oak St., Anderson, June 9-July 25, Monday-Friday, 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

• Greenbriar, 2001 Ashbourne Road, Anderson, June 9-July 25, Monday-Friday, noon to 12:30 p.m.

• Tenth Street School, 3121 E. 10th St., Anderson, June 9-July 25, Monday-Friday, noon to 12:30 p.m.

• Fifth Street United Methodist Church, 1124 W. Fifth St., Anderson, June 9-July 25, Monday-Friday, noon to 12:30 p.m.

NAACP general membership meeting Sunday

The Madison County Branch NAACP will have its general membership meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday at the branch office, 1015 W. 15th St., Anderson. On the agenda will be President James Burgess’ report as well as community concerns.
