INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say two children died in an Indianapolis house fire that left their mother and brother hospitalized.

Fire officials say six people were in the house on the city’s north side when it caught fire about 5 a.m. Sunday. Two people escaped and firefighters rescued four others trapped inside, including the two young girls who later died of their injuries.

The girls were ages 7 and 10, authorities said. The mother and brother were reported in critical condition at a hospital.

The children’s grandmother and her boyfriend escaped through a downstairs window.

Investigators ruled the fire an accident and said it might have been caused by an unattended candle.
