CHESTERFIELD — It was a bad night for Delores and Anthony King, but they’re still alive and determined to move on, in stark contrast to the Alexandria fire that claimed three lives the same day.

Early Sunday morning, alert neighbors and a passerby saw flames shooting out of the roof of the King home at 8 Canterbury Court. Delores remembers banging on the doors and windows. When she and her husband went to the door, neighbors said they had to get out. A passerby also helped but was never identified to the Kings. “I’d like to find out who he is and thank him,” said Delores.

They got their grandson, Jahmed Harmon, who was having a sleepover, and stood out front and watched their house burn. Delores estimated that 75 tom 80 percent of the house was gone.
