ANDERSON — Police are treating the death of a 53-year-old woman, whose body was found Thursday in her Anderson apartment, as a homicide.
Anderson Police Maj. Joel Sandefur said the woman's body was found about 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the apartment in the 1600 block of North Madison Avenue.
Madison County Coroner Danielle Noone Friday identified the woman as Mona Davis. Noone said an autopsy was conducted in Fort Wayne.
“The cause of death is still under investigation," Noone said. "We're awaiting the results of the toxicology and autopsy reports."
Sandefur said the woman was found by uniformed officers acting on a call from a co-worker who reported that the woman was missing and possibly was being held against her will.
He said officers went to check the woman’s apartment.
“We’re treating the case as a homicide,” Sandefur said. “We have spoken to a person of interest and family members.”
The woman’s daughter was arrested at the Anderson Police Department on Thursday on an unrelated charge of auto theft, Sandefur said.
The woman's death would be the second homicide in Anderson this year.
