ANDERSON — Anderson police were called Sunday to St. Vincent Anderson Hospital to investigate the self-inflicted shooting death of a young man.
Madison County Coroner Danielle Noone confirmed that Mark Ash Jr., who was not a patient at the hospital, was seen on the hospital’s video surveillance inflicting the fatal gunshot wounds upon himself.
Noone said she did not know why Ash, a father of three, had killed himself.
Anderson Police Department spokesman Maj. Joel Sandefur confirmed officers were called about 9:40 a.m. to the circle drive outside the emergency room entrance, where they found the 22-year-old Frankton man had shot himself in the chest.
“As far as I know, he shot himself multiple times,” Sandefur said.
The final post on Ash’s Facebook page was a message Friday to his mother, Toya L. Ash.
It was her first birthday since she died in June.
