Ora K. “O.K.” Imel, 86 years old, went to be with Jesus on July 25, 2010. He was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Anderson.
He was a member of Fall Creek Christian Church where he served as a deacon. The children will remember when Ora read stories to them in Children’s Church.
Ora graduated from Anderson High School and also attended GMI.
He was retired from Guide Lamp where he was a special machine builder. He was the one called upon when the job was especially difficult because he would make sure the assignment was done correctly.
O.K. (as he was called) is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wanda (Myer) Imel. He was totally devoted to her. He also leaves behind two children, daughter Jean Ehrhart (husband Charles) and a son, Mark Imel. There are 12 grandchildren including spouses, 18 great-grandchildren including spouses and six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Daisy (Noland) Imel; three brothers; a sister; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Imel.
O.K. loved Jesus and all of nature. He was especially known for keeping his yard immaculate and his special ability growing trees and flowers. He enjoyed feeding the birds as well.
The family wants to give special thanks to the staff at Countryside Manor and his caregivers from Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care that was given to O.K.
Arrangements have been made with Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service and visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday with the funeral at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Tom Wiles officiating. Interment will be at East Maplewood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Fall Creek Christian Church would be appreciated.
