ANDERSON — Tonight's Dan Patch Invitational not only has attracted the best pacers from across North America, but it also has again brought HRTV, the nation's horse racing network, to Anderson.
HRTV (channel 564 on Comcast cable) will be at Hoosier Park this weekend and will cover the $250,000 Dan Patch Invitational live for the fifth consecutive season. The network will carry mkany of the other races on tonight's card.
Peter Lurie, one of four on-air personalities to be with HRTV since it went on the air in 2002, will provide commentary, interviews and handicapping along with Hoosier Park's Emily Gaskin.
Lurie also is a regular figure at the Indiana Derby, which is run each October at Indiana Grand. He also is a breeder and owner, working with his partners under the name Black Diamond Racing LLC.
The Dan Patch will be the 12th race on the card with an approximate post time of 9:30 p.m. There will be nine horses going to the gate for the event, including one of the country's very best pacers, Sweet Lou.
Leading up to the Dan Patch wikll be the East Meets Midwest Drivers' Challenge, which puts the top drivers from the East against the top drivers who call Hoosier Park their home. The competition takes place over three consecutive races.
Each driver will accumulate points based on their finish in those three races. Horses and drivers have been paired randomly. The winning team will take its share of the $20,000 prize money.
The racing action doesn't end this evening, but carries over to the Saturday card.
The Saturday action opens at 2:30 p.m. with a pair of celebrity races. The pro drivers and their celebrity counterparts will be competing for that driver's favorite charity.
Following the celebrity races, the day's card begins at a special time of 3 p.m. The day will be capped by a concert from Grammy Award-winning group Little Big Town.
First post time for today's card is 5:15 p.m.
