This year’s IHSAA baseball sectionals will include only one intra-county first-round matchup. In fact, only a few squads will be playing a familiar opponent.

Alexandria (5-16) and Elwood (16-4) will face each other in the third game of the Class 2A Frankton Sectional, and that is the only first-round game in which one Madison County school will face another. In fact, at Frankton and Class 4A Pendleton Heights, no county squad will face a conference rival, let alone a county foe.

Highland (10-11) drew Richmond in the first game at Class 4A Pendleton Heights, which will be followed by the host Arabians (16-6) and Connersville. Anderson (13-7) will play Greenfield-Central in the third game.

At Frankton, the host Eagles (8-11) drew Winchester in the first game, followed by Wapahani against Lapel. Alexandria and Elwood will face each other in the third game, with Muncie Burris getting the Frankton-Winchester winner.

At Class 2A Northeastern, Shenandoah (5-10) will play White River Athletic Conference rival Eastern Hancock at 9 a.m. May 26. At Class 2A Oak Hill, Madison-Grant will play the host Golden Eagles, a Central Indiana Conference foe.

Ninth-ranked Daleville (14-6) will play Wes-Del at 2 p.m. May 29 in the first round at Class A Cowan, while Liberty Christian (6-10) will play University at Class A Liberty Christian.

Dates and game times for other area sectional sites have yet to be announced.
